The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, expressed gratitude to Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, CFR, the Chief of Staff of the President, for his unwavering support to UNILAG through various initiatives.
In remarks made during the unveiling ceremony of the Femi Gbajabiamila Hall of Residence at the University of Lagos, the Vice-Chancellor addressed the pressing issue of accommodation facing the institution. She praised Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila for promptly responding to the university’s call for assistance.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the significance of the project, stating, “Upon the completion of this endeavor, students hailing from different states of the Federation, as well as diverse cultural backgrounds, will view this hostel as their Home Away from Home. The facility is designed to offer quality housing, fostering a harmonized and diverse socio-cultural environment, where students can share common areas, lounges, kitchenettes, and bathrooms.”
Prof. Ogunsola urged all stakeholders and society at large to support the management in the challenging task of establishing a world-class, globally competitive, and future-ready university. She invoked a quote from J.F. Kennedy, former President of the United States, stating, “The success of any University is determined by the position occupied by its Alumni in the Society. You will agree with me that, going by this statement, the University of Lagos is a very successful and blessed Institution that continues to lead in research, teaching, and innovation.”
The highlight of the event was the official ribbon-cutting and unveiling of the plaque for the Femi Gbajabiamila Hall of Residence by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Honourable Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D., accompanied by other dignitaries present.
Emerging as a prominent structure visible from both the Bariga and Abule Oja directions to the UNILAG main gate in Akoka, Yaba, the Femi Gbajabiamila Hall of Residence consists of four blocks: A, B, C, and D. Each block, occupying an area of approximately 1472.0 square meters, is configured with both 4-man rooms and single occupancy rooms.
