The Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Lagos has received a donation of N3.5 billion to build an entrepreneur centre from a philanthropist, Tunde Fanimokun.
The donation, which was made during the 80th birthday celebration of Fanimokun held at Yusuf Grillo Hall in the College, is to be used to erect an entrepreneurship centre that would help build the life of students.
Expressing their gratitude towards the philanthropic gesture, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) showered praises on Fanimokun for his kind donation.
The chairman of SSANIP, Yabatech Chapter, Jason Ayodeji, described the donation as a welcome development that would add value to students’ career paths.
Ayodeji said the union was happy with the donation given in honour of the late Wahab Folawiyo, the founding father of Yinka Folawiyo Conglomerate.
He expressed that the building that would be named Folawiyo Entrepreneurship Centre would serve as a centre where students would be taught crucial life skills to help them sail through the future.
Describing an entrepreneurship centre as an avenue where the future of students could be shaped. He said a centre like this would foster innovation and creativity among students.
Ayodeji mentioned that the centre would provide the necessary resources, guidance, and networking opportunities that would turn students’ ideas into successful ventures.
“The centre will comprise a four-story building having four lecture theatres, with 320 sitting capacity in each, and another 500 sitting; 19 classrooms; office space for staff; various areas for vocational activities and ample parking facilities,” disclosed Ayodeji
